Islands Fund Success!

Hynish Trust has been awarded £306,050 for renovation of the Lighthouse Keepers Cottages!

The funding has come from the Scottish Government’s Islands Fund.

The project has three parts:

  • Exterior pointing and repair of all the cottages
  • Interior renovations of the two cottages which still require upgrading
  • Teaching traditional building techniques to school pupils, and hopefully training a local person to maintain the buildings in future.

“We’re absolutely delighted to receive this support,” said Trudy MacKenzie, Chair of the Hynish Trust. “These cottages are a vital part of Tiree’s heritage, and this funding means we can preserve them properly for future generations. It’s also a great opportunity to pass on traditional skills and create local employment.”

The Lighthouse Cottages are in much need of an external upgrade, so this is great news! Work will start in the Spring. We are busy putting together the tender
process at the moment and contracts will be awarded in the New Year.
