Another busy month down at Hynish!

We’re thrilled to say that the work for the SGIF Upper Square renovations is underway and going well! We had a visit from Tiree High School last month, giving them a full tour of the Hynish site, as well as introducing them to master stonemason Andrew Bradley, who discussed heritage conservation stonemasonry with the students. We look forward to September, when we will be hosting some of the students from the High School to engage with some stonemasonry and heritage conservation work for a week!

DUALCHAS DISCUSSIONS

We have some exciting new updates to our Dualchas Discussions programme! We recently had a fantastic talk from Dr John Holliday about the archaeology of Ben Hynish, as laid out in his book Two Headlands. It was great to see so many people there, a big thank you again to John for giving this talk and to everyone who came to support – it is always greatly appreciated!

THE HYNISH HUB

We officially launched The Hynish Hub last weekend! Situated on Hebridean Lane, the Hub will act as an information point, meeting space and home to the Hynish Collection – a carefully curated range of products inspired by Hynish. We have collaborated with Panda Rocks to create some lovely crystal lighthouse pieces in 3 different sizes. We also have some beautiful stained glass pieces, courtesy of Pol’s Stained Glass, specially made for the collection. We’re very excited about this new venture and can’t wait to welcome you all!

TMF WEEK

What a week it was! We had the Fèis Thiriodh Ceilidh in Skerryvore Studio on Tues 7th July – a fab evening! We were also able to host some tours of the Skerryvore Lighthouse Shore Station to TMF goers over the weekend, sharing the story of Skerryvore Lighthouse and the shore station with many visitors. It was a delight to see so many people engaging with the site and exploring the rich heritage that Tiree has to offer!
