News from Hynish May 2026

It’s been another busy fortnight for the Hynish Trust!

We had the first talk in our Dualchas Discussions series at the Skerryvore Studio on Saturday the 16th of May. We were all delighted that John Pirie was able to give his talk “A Life in Lighthouses” – a fascinating presentation that d elved into how his life has been intertwined with lighthouses. From childhood memories through to his career with the NLB, discussing personal experiences as well as folklore and other ghost stories from lighthouses all over Scotland. Again, we’d like to thank John for giving this fabulous talk, it was a great way to start this series. Please do keep an eye out for updates on further talks on our social media pages!

We’re also looking forward to Jen Bardell hosting her painting course on the 30 and 31 May at the Skerryvore Studio, organised through the Tiree Makery and supported by Tiree Art Enterprises. This should be a great creativity-filled weekend, and we look forward to continuing working with the Makery to provide more opportunity for creative programmes and workshops down at Hynish!

It’s now been over 2 weeks since Inge opened the Tiree Breadhouse on Hebridean Lane and business is booming! So remember to get your orders placed in plenty of time, or pop by on Saturdays between 12-3pm to have a browse.

Big Sky Books is also hosting their Books and a Blether event on Thursday the 28 May! This will be a fab event, so come along from 7-8pm to join in with some literary discourse and a bit of chat with everyone!

Due to popular demand, we are thrilled to announce that our weekly tours of the Skerryvore Lighthouse Shore Station will be continuing until October. A big thanks to Jim and TJ for doing an excellent job leading these and entertaining all the guests to Hynish!
