You can visit the Hynish Lighthouse Shore Station anytime. The grounds are always open!

The Skerryvore Lighthouse Exhibition is open at all times from April to October and access is available at other times by arrangement.

Alan Stevenson House Inn is open from 8.00 till late serving meals and refreshments. 

Lighthouse Exhibition

This exhibition records the fascinating account of the hazardous Skerryvore reef, 10 nautical miles to the south west of the Isle of Tiree, and the design and construction of the tallest lighthouse in Scotland by Alan Stevenson, uncle of Robert Louis Stevenson. It features unique examples of industrial archaeology, a scale model of the lighthouse and interpretation material of general and educational interest.

Hynish Trail

Pick up a leaflet when you are in the Exhibition and follow the map around the site and head for the viewpoint at Upper Square for a view the lighthouse – weather permitting!

Guided Tours

Want to know more? Then come on a guided tour and hear the fascinating stories about the building of Skerryvore, the site and view the Signal Tower.  Your one hour tour will finish at Alan Stevenson House where you can have a refreshment and chat with your guide.
